Get introduced to all business essentials. Five in-depth modules will boost your business knowledge and your skills in strategy, finance, marketing, operations and people management. A 10-week online learning journey designed to give you a broad base in business fundamentals. By the end of the programme, you’ll talk with confidence, and actively participate in conversations, about these different domains – and you’ll have earned an official Vlerick certificate in Business Essentials.

1 programme, 5 in-depth modules

The programme Learn to speak business is flexible and designed to work around your professional and personal commitments. During this 10-week online programme, you will increase your skills in strategy, finance, marketing, operations and people management.
There’s a new module every 2 weeks, which you can complete at your own pace. You’ll need to dedicate about 5 hours per week to the programme.
The modules bring together a number of learning formats to help you get the most from the programme – including reading, short videos, quizzes, a business simulation and opportunities to get critical feedback from peers. We will invite you to apply your learnings to your own organisation; and at the end of each module, faculty will wrap up the learning by answering your questions.
To obtain your certificate, you need to complete at least 4 of the 5 modules.

Carine Peeters
Professor of Strategy

Carine Peeters is a Professor at Vlerick Business School. She teaches primarily in Vlerick’s
Executive MBA and customised programmes, but she also delivers strategy workshops for
top management teams that want to sharpen their strategy. Before joining the School,
Carine was a faculty member at Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management,
where she obtained her PhD in 2004. From 2004 to 2006, Carine spent 2 years in the United
States as Research Associate at Duke University – Fuqua School of Business. Carine
specialises in Strategy and International Business, with a particular interest in emerging
markets as well as service sourcing strategies and delivery models.

Wouter De Maeseneire

Wouter De Masseneire
Professor of Corporate Finance

Wouter De Maeseneire is a Professor of Corporate Finance at Vlerick Business School, and a Visiting Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Ghent University. Wouter is a passionate and experienced teacher who truly enjoys explaining financial management principles by linking finance to business models and firm strategies. His classes are often centred around self-developed cases discussing the ABInbev deal, Walmart’s financial statements, Dell’s working capital management, Facebook’s IPO debacle, and Apple’s cash position. Wouter has been involved in customised programmes for corporations including AGC, Atlas Copco, Rabobank, Alpro, Pfizer, McCain, Bekaert, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Accenture, ABInbev, Toyota, Honda, Sun Microsystems and Hudson. He is Programme Director of the CFA-accredited Master in Financial Management at Vlerick Business School.

Fred Lemke, Ph.D., MBA, is a Professor of Marketing & Sustainability at Vlerick Business School and leads management workshops on the interface of marketing, sustainability, innovation, value creation, customer experience, and reputation. Fred is the marketing course leader in the Online MBA Programme. He also holds positions at Newcastle University Business School (Visiting Researcher) and Ghent University (Guest Professor). Fred speaks frequently at international conferences on topics that impact modern business and society at large. He typically reflects on current business challenges against a supply chain and multiple-stakeholder background.

Ann Vereecke is a Professor and partner at Vlerick Business School, and a Professor at Ghent University. She was Faculty Dean of Vlerick Business School from 2008 – 2018. She graduated as an engineer from Ghent University, and obtained her PhD at Ghent University in 1997, having been a visiting PhD candidate at INSEAD (France). Ann teaches Operations and Supply Chain Management in the MBA and Master programmes at Vlerick Business School. She is actively involved in executive teaching and in research projects for a broad range of companies. She currently serves on the boards of Ter Beke (food industry), the Picanol Group, and North Sea Port. Her main interests are Supply Chain Management and international manufacturing strategy.

Katleen De Stobbeleir is a Professor of Human Resources Management & Leadership at Vlerick Business School. She teaches leadership, professional management skills and feedback skills in Vlerick’s open enrolment and customised programmes. She is also one of the leading faculty members in Vlerick’s Centre for Excellence on Inclusive Leadership for Adaptive Organisations. She conducts applied research on leadership trends & coaching, and has developed the 360° Feedback Instrument and Vlerick’s Leadership Simulation leadership tools. Furthermore, she is an executive coach and a certified consultant in Investors in People and Great Place to Work.
